What doesn't work:
- On first launch, the system may prompt you to install Zorin Windows App Support. Installing it via the Software Store may complete successfully but the game won’t launch afterward.
- Installing and running through Lutris with Proton: The game starts loading and the splash screen appears. However, then the DLL files fail to load / get skipped. As a result, the game doesn't run.
Method to get it running:
- Install Bottles (Get it from your Software Store or via Flatpak).
- Open Bottles.
- Create a new bottle (default settings are fine).
- Set Wine version (Choose Win11 inside Bottles).
- Run the installer.
- Select the .exe file from the extracted New Horizons folder.
- Bottles will automatically: Install required dependencies; Configure the environment; Launch the game.
- After the setup finishes: Go back to your extracted game folder; Run the main .exe directly (through Bottles).
This tutorial has been made possible thanks to Mirsaneli.
Tested on Zorin OS 18. It should work on any Linux distro using Bottles.
